Crit System
How Crit Rate, Crit Boost, and Crit Resistance work in JoJo: Golden Spirit, and why the World Boss never resists your crits.
A crit roll comes down to three numbers pulling against each other: your Crit Rate, your Crit Boost, and whatever Crit Resistance the target is carrying.
How each stat works
Crit Rate sets the odds that a given hit crits at all. Gear, per-skill buffs, and the Agility fighting style's passive (active whenever a character isn't currently the enemy's target — see Fighting Styles) all add to it. Without dedicated crit gear, expect somewhere around 20%; push crit investment hard and 50%+ becomes realistic.
Crit Boost decides the payoff once a hit does crit. Every crit starts from a ×2.0 base multiplier before Crit Boost touches it — the first 3,000 points of Crit Boost raise that multiplier slowly, and everything past 3,000 raises it faster, up to a scaling cap of +90% (a ×2.9 multiplier at full investment).
Crit Resistance sits on the defender, not the attacker, and works by pulling your effective Crit Rate down before the game rolls for the hit. Stack Crit Rate against a heavily-resistant target and a chunk of that investment gets cancelled before the roll ever happens — which is exactly why shredding a target's resistance matters as much as building your own rate.
The one target that never resists
The World Boss runs Crit Resistance at a flat zero, at every difficulty. The large number that climbs next to it during a fight isn't a resistance stat at all — that's its Attack. Because there's no resistance to strip here, any Crit Rate or Crit Boost you bring lands at full value from the opening hit through the last.
Rate and Boost only pay off together
Neither crit stat is worth much in isolation. A character loaded with Crit Boost but rarely landing a crit wastes most of that investment, while pushing Crit Rate further once it's already comfortably high stops moving the needle. Grow the two together, and only spend a Crit Resistance shred on fights where the target actually has resistance worth removing.
Applying this
- The World Boss rewards Crit Rate and Crit Boost equally at every difficulty, since its Crit Resistance never leaves zero.
- Don't waste a Crit Resistance shred on the World Boss — it has none to shred. Save that debuff for enemies that genuinely carry Crit Resistance.
- Chase Crit Boost once Crit Rate is already landing crits reliably; investing in Crit Boost before then just pays for crits that rarely happen.
